Research Moving Forward

Well, my research is moving along. I just finished editing and enlarging several photographs that the Tulare Historical Museum was kind enough to share with me. I will have several poster size enlargements of Tagus Elementary School Class pictures at the Reunion. For those of you who do not already know, several of the past residents and school mates of Tagus Ranch meet each year and reminiscence. This year the event will be held on Saturday, June 21st at Mooney Grove in Visalia. I hope to see many of you there and have the opportunity to discuss your experiences at the Ranch.

I have family history connected with the Tagus Ranch, and I am very curious and interested in the work you are undertaking. I am 54 years old. My mother and father came from Missouri and Okalhoma, respectively, in the 30's. My mother and family lived and worked on the Tagus Ranch for some time after their arrival. We may be able to make some small, informational contribution to your effort. Please let me know what would be considered of value to your research. As the son of a former resident, I have always had an interest in the social aspects of this ranch, as well.

I am always happy to hear from others that share my interest. I am sure what ever information you have will be of value. I am looking for photographs, flyers for services provided at the ranch, and any other tidbits that can provide insight into the daily lives of those who worked and resided on the ranch. If you would like more detailed information you can email me through the website address by clicking on the contact me link at the bottom of the page. I look forward to communicating more with you.

Hi Aubrie, My husbands mother was born at Tagus Ranch in 1938, I too am trying to find info out. Our grandfather was supposedly a foreman at the ranch, his name was John Davis. Does this name mean anything to you?

I have a full set of tokens (TR coins) myself. I bought them off ebay but have seen them for sale in coin stores and antique stores. The denominations were 1, 5, and 25 cents as well as a dollar.

My understanding is that if a Tagus Ranch employee wanted or needed to be paid each day for work, they could receive their wages in Tagus Ranch tokens. This money was redeemable at the Tagus Ranch store or cafe (none of which are still standing).

The 2009 Tagus Ranch reunion was on June 20th this year. I was unable to attend but for those of you interested, I was informed that the 2010 reunion will be held on June 19th at Mooney Grove. I am looking forward to seeing everyone again.

Hi:I am very interested in your project. I was a resident at camp 2 from 1937 to 1940; however, I was only about 5 years old when we left there. My mother and father left Arkansas in December 1936 and worked picking fruit, etc on Tagus Ranch. My father died there (at the Tulare County Hospital) in 1938. My mother then married one of the residents at camp 6. I do have some family pictures that were taken during the time we lived there. My mother and step-father are still alive. She is 92 and he is 95. They currently live in a nursing home in Northern California. Let me know if there is anything I can do to help with your project.

Recently my mother passed away at the age of 88.When she was 4 years old in 1936 her family migrated from Missouri and came to Tagus Ranch. They were there until 1940 .
I even know their address number there - Box 121
They also spent a brief period of time at Woodville Labor camp from 1941-1942.
I'm trying to find out all I can about Tagus during that period
